I would suspect that the biggest problem w/ supporting and doing testing on
the S/390 or zSeries architecture is that individuals (who'd be managing
the porting and/or testing process) won't *own* either an S/390 or zSeries.

Getting mainframe cycles is not, AFAICT, an inexpensive proposition.
There's only so far you can depend upon emulation.

So AMD64, x86 and PPC are all machines almost any of us techies can afford
to buy; an IA64 is less accessible, but is still *far* more accessible
than a high-end Sun, HP or mainframe system.

My understanding is that the Debian distro isn't a particularly
commercialized (as RH and SuSE are) system so there's less money available
to get cycles with.

That being said, there are times when I wished I had a zSeries (or S/390)
in my back pocket to use... but I don't.

That said, this *is*--as already pointed out--an excellent opportunity,
if you're a Debian/390 user, to write to the Debian folks and let them
know that you *do* care about this architecture!
