Well said, Rick. That's really the key point -- if VM is to retain the role
of premier virtualization widget, it's going to need to handle ECKD
emulation for those older systems that don't/can't/won't do SCSI or FBA. I
don't see IBM backporting SCSI support to VM/XA, do you? 8-)

Other than my instinctive flinch at introducing Java support into CP (give
em a break, they just got C working properly, for goodness sake!), it's a
darn good idea. If IBM introduced the ability to have different types of CPs
in a LPAR, this would be a very interesting (and useful) way to test
assigning CP type affinities to CP modules, and really wear out the
processor scheduling and dispatching code in CP.
