If you're looking for something to monitor Linux machines (or anything
else on the network for that matter) there are open source network
services monitors available. I'm giving a presentation at SHARE about
one, Hobbit. If you are attending SHARE, the session is at 11AM Monday.
If not, feel free to contact me off-list and we can discuss it. You
could also visit the web site http://hobbitmon.sourceforge.net.

Anyone using this to monitor Linux under VM on a large scale basis?
Seems like a pretty heavy agent (java based) memory wise.
