The linking of the TCPMAINT disk gave me the command access I was
looking for. Pinging of all the various guests I'm interested in works from
this new user ID (gateway, dns, nfs server). However, a TRACERTE
command to that same gateway system fails:
DTCTRA0020E UDP Socket(): EDC5111I Permission denied.

So you have *never* gotten TCP/IP access to any Linux yet? Is z/VM on the
network and using the same gateway and OSA card? If so then you know the
gateway is up and on the same subnet as the OSA. If not, then verify your
hardware/network setup. If so, might the gateway be dropping ICMP pings
(in which case you can proceed even though the gateway can't be pinged)?
The user ID does not have TCPIP command access
