Perhaps, but the key thing is that you don't just turn it on for lists - you turn it on for your email-address, and selectively turning it off for mailing-lists is hassle and might not even be an option. Generally I certainly agree that it would be optimal if auto-replies were never sent to lists. However, when only one is sent it is much less of a problem.
