OUr VM expertise here is(was) extremely limited. IBM Helped us install it.
After it was the "Here's some books. Here's our Number. Have a nice day"
type of things, so being neophytes, we didn't realize such was possible untl we
hired the guy with 7 years VM experience.
We've been running fuzzy backups from day 1. Good practice? No. But Again I
have no idea whatsoever how to communicate with a linux guest from z/OS.
We also don't want to take WebSphere down for the time it takes to backup and
we do NOT have flashcopy. (too much money). We are not, (and I'm told
WILL not be) running PROP - which is what I beleive would solve this issue to a
great deal.

Can't you get MVS to send some output to a disconnected machine on VM
that would restart your Linux service again? You'd need such
communication also when you start your backup, don't you?
