I found this while googling

cd /to/the/directory/where/the/ramdisk/was/exploded
find . | cpio -oc | gzip -9 > /boot/some-initrd.img

Thanks for your procedure!!!

ls -R | cpio -o > /tmp/new.initrd
should do the trick

Subject: 2.6.9 initial ram disk

I got this procedure from someone else. I have exploded the 2.6.9
initrd using

mkdir initrd
cd initrd
gunzip -S img /boot/initrd.orig.img > initrd
cpio -idvm < initrd

Now that I've made a change inside of the exploded initrd directory how
do I reverse back to initrd.orig.img? I'm sorry but I've "cpio --h" and
"man cpio" but I can't figure out the options.
