Well, not explicitly new, but we're having now:
- DCSS
- xDR support (ie GDPS light for Linux). SLES now integrates with
GDPS and can talk to z/OS for site failover.
- Yast integration for
- VDSK
- Dump device
- root on iSCSI (which could be started from z/VM Reader, so no local
storage required); sadly works only on CTC. If there is popular demand
I might be doing qeth/hsi as well.
- Boot and installation from zfcp CD/DVD
- Dynamic /dev via udev
- Layer2 support for qeth
- Generic Unique IDs for DASDs. Now we have real device IDs for DASD in
/sys/bus/ccw/X.X.XXXX/uid and we don't have to rely on the disklabel
to identify the DASD.
- DASD DIAG access is now 64bit clean. Well, if z/VM is up to scratch,
naturally. IIRC 5.1 and later can handle it. But be aware that the
z/VM side is 'mostly' 64bit clean. So there might be the odd bit still
lurking.
Improvements to SLES9:
- hotplug's been replaced completely by udev; so any race/delay/lockups
are gone forever. In short better scalability / start-up times on
larger machines.
- YaST support for persistent device naming; required for boot from
SAN/zfcp devices.
- Root on multipath
- iSCSI support: switched to open-iscsi; iscsitarget is included now, as
well. And everything can be configured by YaST, too.
That's all I can think of right now. There might be more; I'll keep you
posted.
Cheers,
Hannes
