Is there a reason to use SSH without encryption over telnet? Just wondering.
The primary reason _I_ use ssh is its simplicity compared with using telnet. Mostly, I use it over trusted (I control it all) or already-encrypted channels (VPN). I often use it's X forwarding, I often run commands like this: ssh coco uptime and I often use SCP. ssh replaces telnet and rsh, and (it seems to me) does both jobs better. In addition to those, I also used to use rexec on OS/2. telnet doesn't automatically login - I used to run an expect script to do that. rsh doesn't authenticat users very well. Neither does rexec. -- Cheers John -- spambait [EMAIL PROTECTED] [EMAIL PROTECTED] Tourist pics http://portgeographe.environmentaldisasters.cds.merseine.nu/ do not reply off-list ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
