process works (for RHEL3 at least) using a single common source set.

A single srpm by the way doesn't indicate a common source because the
source rpm spec file can contain instructions to apply patches based
upon architecture, and several SRPM sets may just be to keep less
technical customers from getting confused when searching for stuff.
