It "should" only if the z9 isn't configured with new chpid types or memory configurations that sles8 doesn't understand. You note that we always have compatibility PTFs for z/VM when a new processor appears. Novell is saying that they aren't going to provide support under the terms of your support contract for that configuration. It has nothing to do with the ability to run sles8 on a z9. But that's always the issue.
