Uhh, lot of good tips, thanks to everyone. I'll try to answer randomly to some of the queries.
As more than one mentionend our single IFL runs at full speed, that is 365 MIPS. I have been told that the clock of an IFL is about 0,8 GHz, not 1,3 GHz as per my original post. In my opinion, *A LOT* less than the PPC5, so the gap in performance is partially justified. More than one have stated the importance to run two IFLs instead of one. Well, I agree on this and we will probably give it a try. However, the cost of 2 IFLs must be taken into account, if IBM doesn't cut the price (85.000 $ x 2) it'll be hard to justify the purchase 'just because Linux on the mainframe is cool'. Alan Altmark pointed us a good site with lot of tuning tips for zLinux. We discovered that our DASD was poorly configured, because we didn't split our addresses among more than one LCUs on the Sharks. Having addresses 2000-2017 configured and used for DB2 is the worst setup we could have conceived. We expect to gain better I/O once the DASD will be conveniently setup. We're going to repeat our benchmarks at the IBM labs in Boeblingen. IBM offered to help to see if the zLinux is the way to go for us. At the same time, we'll be installing DB2 on our zOS.e to see how it works there. Thanks very much.
