Robert, I don't know. I looked at /boot/initrd, and it says the file size is 8261468 bytes. 103269*80 is only 52 more than 826148, so the size looks very reasonable. Not to say it wasn't corrupted during transfer, somehow, though.
I am concerned about this message: checking if image is initramfs...it isn't (bad gzip magic numbers); looks like an initrd /boot/initrd for SLES10 is really a gzip compressed cpio archive, so this is doubly wrong. I agree with your recommendation to re-download/upload the initrd. I would make sure binary was turned on, since that may have been the issue.
