Hum, I've heard of this type of thing. And I do boot Knoppix from CD on
rare occassion. But that disrupts my normal work (I'm forced to run MS
Windows at work. I'm MS-free at home).

The one that I downloaded allowed me to create a "from scratch" virtual
machine, which I used to create a Ubuntu desktop system (assign the ISO
as a virtual CD-ROM in VMware and boot from it), just to look at it.
Personally, I don't touch anything from MS unless I am forced to.

It would be wonderful to be able to IPL from the DVD via the HMC, and
then access the DVD contents via TCPIP while still on the HMC. IBM could
do this with the new Linux-based HMCs, but I have not heard that they
allow this. I have "heard" that the HMC is totally locked into the HMC
application, no access to Linux at all.
