The only thing that comes to mind is that you don't have any sort of window manager defined to start once the connection is made. Or, you have twm as the default, which usually presents itself as a solid colored screen with nothing on it until you right click.
Running a "ps axf" command from a shell while you're in the state you describe might show what's happening better. This is what I have done so far. 1. Modified /etc/xinetd.d/vnc and changed "disabled=yes" to "disabled=no" for service vnc1, vnc2 and vnc3. 2. Modified /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager and changed : DISPLAYMANAGER_REMOTE_ACCESS="no" to ="yes" DISPLAYMANAGER_ROOT_LOGIN_REMOTE="no" to ="yes" 3. SuSEconfig 4. chkconfig vnc on 5. chkconfig xinetd on Now, when I connect using Vncviewer, I get the login prompt. However, when I enter root/passwd the system just sits there. What am I missing ?
