If the #CP Q DASD shows the devices, but the system doesn't, do a "cat
/proc/dasd/devices" and see if they are listed there...

Did you recently (i.e. Since the previous boot) add the LVM DASD to the
system? If so, and if you did not do a "mkinitrd && zipl" of SLES 9, or edit
the zipl.conf parameter definitions to include the new DASD for SLES 8, then
you'd see this type of mess. (Believe me; I've been here several (many?)
times...)

If this is the case, you could bring up a recovery system, get things
defined and mounted, "chroot" to the crippled system and do the mkinitrd and
the zipl, either having everything in place, or removing entirely the LVM
volumes. Bring down the recovery system, and then bring up the real system,
possibly then needing to define the new dasd and then do a "vgscan".

Once all this is done, be sure to do the "mkinitrd && zipl", to be sure
everything is clean for the next reboot.
