Manual process or some z/OS-based automation triggered by something else
(eg SCIF). z/OS doesn't support SIGNAL SHUTDOWN.

Not yet, AFAIK. 

It'd be nice, wouldn't it, if z/OS would evolve to the point VSE was at
10 years ago and learn to play nice with VM... *grumble*. It's not like
it's hard -- but that might lead to running production on VM, and that
might lead to dancing...
