It proves that, regardless of original language, culture or architecture, it is possible to use brute force to induce any collection of pigs to sing grand opera, if one is not particular about tonality or presentation value. 8-) More practically, it is a complement to the Hercules developers that they have managed to avoid a lot of really stupid coding tricks that make an application non-portable. VAX C is really, REALLY literal-minded -- even more than the old C/370 compiler was -- and it seems to have worked out ok this time. I haven't tried building klh10 on it yet.
