Unless you changed something, the default for SLES is to have root as the 
second partition.  If you do an "fdasd -p /dev/dasdf" you might be able to 
determine if partition 1 really is swap or not.  In any case, try mounting 
/dev/dasdf2 and /dev/dasdf3, just for grins.
