Anton,

The folks here that evaluated Open Source database systems seemed to
find PostgreSQL to be a much more robust solution. They've been using
it here in production for at least 3 years on zLinux. The database is
small (< 100GB) but is quite active. The application is written in Perl
and it accesses data on z/OS DB2 as well.

Hi,

We are implementing a BRE on zLinux and the problem is "How to get to
the Data"

A) the data is kept in Adabas running on a zOS platform
B) Some of the Java Developers suggested keeping a "Cache" in MySQl on
the zLinux side

Conclusion : It sounds to me as if we are entering the "Wild wild West"
?

I'm not personally aware of anyone running MySQL on the mainframe. I am
aware of massive use of it on midrange systems, some of them in mission
critical applications. (I've always been a little disappointed that
many mainframe shops aren't using more of the "major" open source
packages like MySQL. It seemed like a natural cost savings over
commercial software.)

Have you tried MySQL and experienced performance problems, or are you
just seeing if anyone else has tried it out before you start?
