It's hanging waiting for the device that has your root file system on it to "show up" so it can mount it. I'm curious as to what /etc/fstab looks like on the original system. I am not sure what would be referring to your root file system by /dev/disk/by-id/... instead of /dev/dasda1. I don't think I've ever seen this problem before. By any chance do you have your root file system on an LVM logical volume?
