I'm not at all sure what might be happening.  You might try deleting
repodata/repomd.xml.asc
repodata/repomd.xml.key
repodata/repomd.xml
repodata/primary.xml.gz
repodata/filelists.xml.gz
repodata/patches.xml

and see what happens.  If that doesn't do it, "bash -x /usr/sbin/yup" might 
provide more clues.
