Depends on what you mean by resource consumption?

In the case you cited, you mentioned memory.

Ok, in this case, where we seem to already be committed to HATS and therefore
some sort of Websphere footprint.

Which would take more memory:

1. Run full blown Websphere, and in it, include HATS plus in house developed
applications.
2. Run the striped down HATS/Websphere product, and run in house developed
applications under Jboss.

In case 1, I'm only running 1 Java platform. In case 2, I'm running 2 Java
platforms. I think I would be using less storage with case 1.

But...there may be rules and licensing and....
that are against use running HATS in anything but in the provided Websphere
runtime product.

If that is the case, then case 2 might take less memory.

I need to get back to it. Back in the Spring, I was getting ready for a
Websphere trial in which I had intended to bring up the HATS trial. That would
answer many of my questions.

And then I can also bring up Jboss.

But then, my time, is also a chargeable resource <G>.

But going back to the original question...I take it that you don't believe
that, other than memory footprint, that there are any Jboss applications that
can't run under Websphere? I know that Java is suppose to be Java. And C is
suppose to be C. And Cobol was suppose to be Cobol. But if you have a Jboss
application that has support, is the application only supported on a Jboss
platform? Do the developers in the Java world, even care, what platform you
are on?

I get the feeling that whatever road we take, it will be the wrong one <G>.
But we got to start down a path....soon.

Do you consider resource consumption "a cost issue" ?

Websphere tends to need more resources than JBoss, in my admittedly
anecdotal experience. If "cost" extends to "well, we can add some
more storage to the box" then that isn't a problem.
