You don't think that IBM/POK isn't protecting their huge revenue base from z/OS
and DB2 by
avoiding competition from Linux? There are places where IBM sales people will
not
recommend zLinux because the customers have saved too much money - meaning that
IBM sales
loses money.... "Customers" should pay attention to this in their decision
process.

Ok, point taken... Some people may argue that DB2 on z/OS is the
perfect solution, I tend to disagree. But at least customers could be
offered a choice, and I don't consider DB2 on AIX or Windows or even
Linux on Intel a choice.
I agree with you, and wish for a SAP + DB2 EE on Linux for IBM System z.
Personally I can see many, many unique features of having the DB under
Linux rather
then on z/OS - cloning for example. (e.g. complete snapshot images of
SAP+DB).
DB2 Partitioning could be done between Linux Guests and across CECs.
But this is a prime example fo the difference between Opensource and
Proprietary.
IBM+SAP have to financially justify the development of installation
tools and documentation,
testing, and certification time, and then the ongoing support.
At present it is not going to happen, the only thing that could swing
this is the community to
become more vocal about it. Once a demand is really seen, justification
follows.
