You would want to use the "Patterns" filter, and de-select everything except the base system pattern. You could also try (from the main software screen) going to the "Etc." drop-down, hitting down-arrow, select the "Dependencies" option (should already be highlighted), down-arrow to the (most likely "checked") " Automatic Dependency Check" option, and press the space bar. I don't know for sure that it will avoid the dependency checking for each pattern to change, but it might help. If not, then yeah, take the default just to get going. Getting rid of some of them later will be quicker and easier (sorta).
