Use Kerberos or NIS, or run either Winbind or PAM to get the user info
from a remote source. Since you need to coordinate userids and UIDs
across images anyway, that scales better, and you only have to update in
one place.

For a small number of ids, NIS is probably simpler to set up, but
Kerberos will scale better (and allow you to play nice with AD if you
need to).
