Theoretically, that's what SMAPI is supposed to allow you to do. The API
is kinda ugly, but you can do all the directory munging and disk
manipulation from a Linux app.

would you use it from Linux?
I have C source I put wrote up that uses the RPC version of the API. I
used this from rexx code I ran on Linux to build servers. Taint pretty
but it served my purpose at the time. Holler if you want it.
