This is what I got from IBM support. In the 2.6 kernel for SLES 9, the loop module has been compiled into the kernel. You will need to edit your /etc/zipl.conf and add the following:
max_loop=16 Then run zipl Then reboot. That fixed it. Thanks to all who replied.
