I will try to explain.... Our DR Lpars (z/OS and z/VM) live on a BC-9 Capacity on Demand CEC and they are not always IPL'd... also, there are two sets of DASD (online DASD and shadow image DASD) at each site. Shadow image DASD is really only updates... We only replicate updates now,,,. an update travels from (1) the Production to (2) Prod Shadow image, then to (3) DR shadow copy, then at checkpoints the DR shadow is copied to(4) the online DR DASD... while the DR site Lpar is ipl'd, we keep the DR shadow and real DASD split apart ... so no data is over-written while we are IPL'd... When DR is shut down, replication resumes....
