I think Frank is telling a cautionary tale, but from an applications
perspective, so he
may (or may not) be privy to all of the details in his shop. Mark's comments
are (as
usual) spot on. It's a matter of configuring the virtual machines and
applications to
suit your environment. It is also a matter of tuning the environment somewhat
more than
is necessary on other platforms, because usually we're trying to stuff 10
pounds of
stuff into a 5 pound bag.
All of those applications can run exceeding well on Linux for System z.
