Thanks to all for the ideas. I put exim on my Linux desktop for testing. I
set the exim.conf to use the "smarthost" router, pointing directly to the
MS Exchange server. Worked like a champ with mailx. My needs are very
minimal. If an email "goes missing", nobody is going to go ballistic. This
is just to send a few notifications to my group's inbox for "alerts" which
for some reason we can't convince the sysadmin to automate. Or maybe
nobody has bothered to ask yet. I am just now getting into this scenario.
We (my group) are not really Linux people, we're z/OS sysprogs. It's just
that this application is replacing a z/OS application for which we were
responsible. So "they" decided that we'd be responsible for the Linux app
that replaced it. What a mess.
