The initrd looks perfectly valid: a gzipped cpio archive. I'm not sure how to validate the different .ikr files at this point. According to "file" the headers indicate both SLES10SP2 and SLES11 are "Applesoft BASIC program data." I have some reading to do here. The instruction count of two gave me hope that it was something silly with a quick solution, but I will dig more. I IPLed the debian Lenny installer from the reader so it's not really an apples to apples, but SLES 10 SP2 was an ipl suse.ins which is the same method I'm trying to use with SLES 11.
