To get the virtual WWPN visible on the SAN you have to force the Linux guest to bring the FCP subchannel online:
echo 1 > /sys/bus/ccw/drivers/zfcp/0.0.<subchannel>/online That will drive the NPIV'ed WWPN to do a port login to the switch. You'll get a message from the kernel like this when the WWPN is logged to the SAN successfully: >>>>> scsi0 : zfcp zfcp: The adapter 0.0.a000 reported the following characteristics: WWNN 0x5005076400c57456, WWPN 0x0000000000002c20, S_ID 0x00a9007c, adapter version 0x4, LIC version 0x70c, FC link speed 2 Gb/s zfcp: Switched fabric fibrechannel network detected at adapter 0.0.a000. <<<<< The SAN administrators can create the zones and lun masks without this, but as was mentioned earlier they will have to key in the 16 digit WWPN manually. ( and it's therefore error prone ) My method is to go ahead and configure the linux systems to try to talk to the target ports and luns and bring them online using the normal OS tools, then when the zoning gets done the luns **should** just pop up. -- Jay Brenneman ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390
