I think the complaint at the start of this thread was exactly the separation of security (the vswitch GRANT) and definition (NICDEF in directory). I think most people would agreed that a NICDEF in the directory would constitute proof that someone authorized intended an authorized connection. But alas, that is not how the gods designed this.
