One pitfall to think about I ran into with VSS the hard way is that VSS operates according to the 'same box' principle. Meaning that traffic coming in on one physical switch is forwarded to a port channel link on the same box no matter what load balancing hashing policy you specify. Traffic is never forwarded over the ISL between the two VSS halves for load balancing to a link on the other box. So if your traffic is not evenly balanced between the two halves for whatever reason you need to unbalance the port channel links in the same way. In my case I ended up with 3 links on one switch and 1 link on the other, together forming a 4 link port channel. This is especially relevant with eg VMware ESX console sessions that are by design single link (I am told by our VMware guys) and so forward backups from the underlying VM´s to only one switch.
