Thank you Robert. I learned 2 things  from your note, 1st. I can use
$(uname -r) instead of typing the kernel version, and 2nd, there's a
typo in the mkinitrd sample command in the RedHat manual I was working
from. Your command worked like a champ. Thank you so much.

Thank you Mark, you were correct. I was apparently typing "e ell five"
instead of "e 15" in the name of the image file. I think this was a case
of not seeing the tree for the forest.

And last but certainly not least, thank you Shawn Wells. Your link
worked beautifully and was very helpful. I can't tell you how much I
wished that I'd seen this article much earlier when I was first starting
to add the dasd to this system. I've installed a couple of Suse systems
for my company's developers, but this is only the 2nd time I've
installed a RedHat system, and the first time I've had to modify the
system after installation.
