Chan, Chapter 6 in Running Guest Operating Systems has a mistaken and confusing example that incorrectly tells you the command %cp define printer vaddr will work to define a virtual printer because of the TERMINAL BRKKEY setting. Actually, the BRKKEY setting doesn't affect that command.
The %cp command won't work to communicate with first-level CP unless the first-level userid TESTVM has its TERMINAL LINEND character set to % instead of # (the default value). In TESTVM's PROFILE EXEC you could set % as TESTVM's LINEND character by including the command: CP TERMINAL LINEND % or you could code TESTVM's user directory definition as USER VMTEST password 64M 128M BG 99 % *the '99' is a non-functional place holder CP Q TERMINAL will show you LINEND's current setting (BRKKEY's setting too). The manual's example is correct in saying setting the TERMINAL BRKKEY of a user ID on the second level system to a different BRKKEY than that of the first level system (TESTVM) allows you to use the BRKKEY defined on the second-level system to communicate with the second level CP. Both LINEND and BRKKEY are ways to communicate with CP but do it in different ways. Both LINEND and BRKKEY are per-userid settings, can be set differently on each userid. (FWIW, V2 R3.0 of Running Guest Operating Systems (March 1998) is the last one I found that has that %cp example correct. I think every edition after that mangled it in some fashion, even the later ones that tried to correct the mangling!) > -----Original Message----- > From: Linux on 390 Port [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of > Dave Jones > Sent: Wednesday, October 07, 2009 8:17 AM > To: [email protected] > Subject: Re: 2nd level zVM > > Check out Chapter 6 in z/VM V5R4.0 Running Guest Operating Systems > (http://publibz.boulder.ibm.com/cgi- > bin/bookmgr_OS390/BOOKS/HCSE7B30/CCONTENTS?SHELF=hcsh2aa1&DN=SC24-6115- > 03&DT=20080702091351) > > > Chan Kok Leong wrote: > > Hi, Just checking if there is any guide on setting up a second level > > z/VM system? > > > > --------------------------------------------------------------------- > - > > For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, > > send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 > > or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 > > -- > Dave Jones > V/Soft > www.vsoft-software.com > Houston, TX > 281.578.7544 > > ---------------------------------------------------------------------- > For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, > send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 > or visit > http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 This e-mail, including any attachments, may be confidential, privileged or otherwise legally protected.
