It seems as though it's a feature of the new kernel and new udev.  The kernel 
is generating the uevents to add the dm-? device(s),  udev is acting on them, 
and device mapper is recognizing the PV/VG/LV.

Not that I'm aware of, but that doesn't mean there isn't one.
