That is true. Those packages coming from OpenOffice.org won't install on SLES11. Even when you would extract the modules with rpm2cpio you cannot run them since they require a certain glibc version that is not available on SLES 11.
I got in contact with Caolán McNamara, who made those packages and thanks to him, there are new ones. You can download them from ftp://qa-upload.services.openoffice.org/3.2.1_s390x/OOo_3.2.1rc2_Linux_S390X_install_en-US.tar.gz I installed them on my test system and OO is now running on our SLES 11 for zSeries. Of course there is no warranty. Hope this helps you further.
