The Binutils and GCC support for z196 has just been applied to the upstream repos: http://sourceware.org/ml/binutils/2010-09/msg00457.html http://gcc.gnu.org/ml/gcc-patches/2010-10/msg00309.html So z196 support will be available with binutils 2.21 and GCC 4.6.0.
