At this point is really just academic because I can make it work, BUT here is 
the data from my experiment.

Removed parameters= line totally, then:

lnx050:/etc # mkinitrd

Initrd image:   /boot/initrd-3.0.13-0.27-default
Root device:    /dev/dasda1 (mounted on / as ext3)
Kernel Modules: jbd mbcache ext3 scsi_mod scsi_dh scsi_dh_alua scsi_dh_hp_sw 
scsi_dh_emc scsi_dh_rdac dasd_mod dasd_eckd_mod crc-t10
dif sd_mod
Features:       block dasd
