Hold the date for the next Hillgang meeting at the CA office in Herndon
Virginia. Here's the agenda as it stands currently. I expect to add one more
presentation when travel is approved for the speaker. A brochure with
time/location details will be provided when the agenda is finalized.

* Automation Scenarios for a z/VM Cluster and Linux on System z Guests
Tracey Dean, IBM
* Business Analytics and IBM System z Tom Heller, IBM

CA Support for VM SSI
---------------------
This session will provide an overview of CA VM:Secure and CA VM:Director
directory management functions in an SSI environment. We will discuss the
latest enhancements to support this new environment as well as
recommendations on usage and set up of various CA products.

Automation Scenarios for a z/VM Cluster and Linux on System z Guests
--------------------------------------------------------------------
As the Linux on System z environment continues to grow, the need for
software and solutions to manage this environment also grows. This session
will provide updated information on automating operations in a z/VM and
Linux on System z environment, including z/VM clusters.
Live demos can include how to:
· Automatically take action based on messages on z/VM service machines,
on Linux guest consoles, and in Linux syslog data
· View and interact with live consoles, for both monitoring and
debugging purposes
· Monitor and manage spool file and page space usage
· Send alerts to a central operations console (one per cluster) or a
central alerting system, such as IBM Netcool/OMNIbus or other systems that
accept SNMP traps
· Send e-mails based on console messages, spool usage, etc.
· Automatically archive logging data when a disk approaches full
The demos will use IBM's management software for z/VM and Linux on System z,
but the presentation will include requirements for implementing the
scenarios with other software.

Business Analytics and IBM System z
-----------------------------------
Businesses of all sizes want to maximize the value of their business data,
the stored knowledge of their business and their customers. The pressure to
make fast decisions in response to changes in business conditions or to spot
new opportunities grows every year. There has been a huge increase in the
requirements for access to all types of transactional data to support the
required decision making processes. IBM System Z servers have always been
designed to provide the ideal platform for managing large volumes of
business data. Additional features have been added to the design of the
latest generations of IBM System Z servers in order to greatly improve the
performance and reliability of business intelligence applications. This
presentation will give an overview of IBM's newest offerings in the area of
business analytics. It will also include a discussion of the role of
virtualization in the area of server consolidation, especially the
consolidation of many application layer servers onto System z.
