If you actually read the SVID docs, editing /etc/inittab is the only truly 
universal method of doing this kind of thing for System V-derived systems. The 
fact that no one with any real experience in developing and supporting well 
behaved Unix applications does it this way says something about the utility of 
the SVID.

And yes, thats the usual path for TSM: often technically correct, but usually 
not terribly well connected with reality. 8-)

I think it remains to be seen. Conceptually, it's a useful idea. Experience so 
far is mixed. Time will tell. KISS is still a fundamentally good practice, and 
simple is not a word I would apply to systemd.
