cross-posted to both VM and linux listserver communities all of the following transpired in VM 6.1 i am trying to do what's necessary to set up, install linux under VM, per the SOE in the "getting started with linux on system Z" book.
i created a LININCLD DIRECT which looks like this: PROFILE LININCLD CLASS G IPL CMS PARM AUTOCR IUCV ALLOW MACHINE ESA MAXSTORAGE 2047M OPTION QUICKDSP STORAGE 128M CONSOLE 0009 3215 T NICDEF 600 TYPE QDIO LAN SYSTEM VSW1 SPOOL 000C 2540 READER * SPOOL 000D 2540 PUNCH A SPOOL 000E 1403 A LINK MAINT 0190 0190 RR LINK MAINT 019D 019D RR LINK MAINT 019E 019E RR and added it to the user directory like this: dirm file linincld direct and then did a dirm send linincld direct and it came back to my rdrlist (and so i assume that that critter is indeed now IN the user directory .... ) i created a LINPROTO PROTODIR which looks like this: USER LINPROTO NOLOG INCLUDE LININCLD MDISK 191 3390 AUTOG 0005 GRPLINUX MR MDISK 150 3390 AUTOG 3088 GRPLINUX MR MDISK 151 3390 AUTOG 0200 GRPLINUX MR and added it to the user directory like this: dirm file linproto protodir and then did a dirm send linproto protodir and it , too, came back to my rdrlist (and, again, same-same, i'm assuming that this boy, too, is also now IN the user directory ) just for grins, i then did a dirm user withpass and it too came back to my rdrlist BUT upon examination of that USER WITHPASS neither LININCLD DIRECT nor LINPROTO PROTODIR is to be found and there's more: according to the same "getting started..... " book, there are already in the user dirctory two entities called LINDFLT DIRECT and LINUX PROTODIR (which i could have used, i guess, but i figured i shouldn't mess with them) : they aren't in the USER WITHPASS either. finally, still playing around i tried this: dirm add LINMASTR like LINPROTO and was rewarded w/ an explicit statement that the profile matching the include statement is MIA in the current directory so i have 3 questions (1) what's going on? why aren't those things in the user directory when I do a "dirm user withpass" ? should i have used "dirm add .... " commands instead of "dirm file ...." commands? (the "getting started book .. " uses 'dirm file' ) yeah, i could try those at this point, but at this point i think i need some advice here before i try anything else on my own .... AND (2) assuming that all 4 of those things ( my stuff: LININCLD DIRECT LINPROTO PROTODIR ; the other stuff: LINDFLT DIRECT LINUX PROTODIR are indeed somewhere in the user directory, what commands do i use to get DirMaint to show me the ENTIRE contents of the user directory? (3) what the heck else shoul I be doing here? thanks in advance /s/ "sonny" ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit http://www.marist.edu/htbin/wlvindex?LINUX-390 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For more information on Linux on System z, visit http://wiki.linuxvm.org/
