Yes, it is, but we have tried both | and !
Either way we get error messages.

Yes, here it is:

Kernel command line: ro ramdisk_size=131072 cio_ignore=all,|
condev CMSDASD=191

inst.repo=nfs:10.221.194.22:/data/inst_media/RHEL7/rhel-server-7.0-s390x-dvd.iso
[ 0.000000] cio: |condev is not a valid device for the cio_ignore
kernel parameter
it is definitely a wrong character typed in the cio_ignore option, |
(pipe) instead of ! (exclamation mark)

Sorry, it doesn't work either way :-(
Only change is that ignore does not work at all, so terminal output
will show up when you specify a valid device.
When specifying an invalid device you get nothing on the console,
condev is obviously an invalid device here.
"condev" is treated as a keyword and will be replaced with the actual
(ccw based) console device at IPL-time. Could you please add details
like error messages - especially the "Kernel command line:" from the
kernel log.

Regards,
Sebastian

Well, RedHat is working on it and they have been able to reproduce
the error.

Actually it's supposed to be a bug, and is reported to RedHat.

You did get some complaints:

ap='se'
inst.sshd
inst.vnc inst.vncconnect=10.221.194.22:5500
inst.repo=nfs:10.221.194.22:/data/inst_media/RHEL7/rhel-server-7.0-s390x-dvd.iso
13:48:20,750 WARNING kernel:[ 0.000000] cio: |condev is not
a valid device for the cio_ignore kernel parameter
Or....this could also be a codepage problem. The "|" should be "!"
- I guessed this was mangled in your mailer or during copy 'n paste
from the z/VM console. But maybe it's wrong in the parmfile?? (But
if so - changing only s/condev/9/ in the parmfile wouldn't help
without fixing the borken "!")

Sebastian

Which kernel (version) is this? To the best of my knowledge this
is not a rhel7 kernel.

Regards,
Sebastian

Also more than 4 disks crashed the installation at that
disksetup :-(

We just solved that installation problem.

There is a recommendation to use cio_ignore=all,!condev in
the GENERIC PRM file used at booting the install. But this
also rules out the console on 0009 that is needed at the
end of the installation. It should be: "cio_ignore=all,!
0.0009"
There is a rhbz about this
(https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1129249)
sadly, with zero additional information. Can you post an
error message or logfile? I just tried a rhel7 kernel and
this worked as expected.
Also the zipl configuration for the installed kernel would be
interesting.

Regards,
Sebastian
Then it works :)

Hi, I'm trying to install RHEL7, but the post install steps
run into some kind of problem and it crashes. Anybody
having done a successful installation, or even better also
had such a problem and managed to get a workaround ?

Have tried a number of times both via vnc and via ssh.
Same result.
