Could it be that the guest is getting sent an interrupt when the terminal 
disconnects and the guest interpreted it as shutdown reboot now.
I forget where to check this but am sure the masters on this list know.

I'm very unclear on the actual symptoms..   reading your original post, I
get the impression this only effects VPN users ... and now I'm confused.
