Hi, have long been using the PFKYS in the VM Profile, these are readable from
inside the Linux server.
Now with RHEL7, we use VM Tags in the same profile.
And at boot VM take copy of the Linux users complete profile, and put it as a
file on that users reader.
We also have a 'SMSG-listener' user in z/VM, to which a Linux can send SMSG to
request for a new send of the profile.

In all cases we collect all the ipconfig from PFKEYS/Reader file and set all
ipconfig accordingly IF IT DIFFER from current, before the network is started.
We also test if this is the first boot in which case a lots of files is cleaned
up, new ssh keys and such stuff to make a clean new server.

So basically we can clone any server, it will configure the network before it
is started, and cleanup old files if first boot. No need to do anything more,
just clone it and boot it.
But of course we use a so-called 'clone base', or golden image as it often is
called.
In our case it's a normal server with all basic stuff installed, including our
addons, but completely free from any user application or config.

Subject: IP Configuration

I believe that a lot of customers have developed their own schemes for
dynamically configuring Linux guest IP addresses during boot, accommodating
different environments (such as production, DR, and test). Does anyone have
such a mechanism that they would be willing to share (scripts,
configuration file structure, brief description)? New clients would prefer
to start from something that is known to work rather than inventing their
own approach from scratch.

If you are willing to share, please get in touch with me off list.
