Would someone have dynamically linked to some new disks along the way and 
failed to update the directory entry?  IPL would send the guest back to 
the original configuration.  Did the guest fsck or otherwise detect a 
dirty file system on the way up? 

Warps in the space-time continuum are not unknown, but are exceedingly 
rare and hard to prove.  (Need special detectors.  Linux guests don't 
count.)
