We do use it extensively on our development environment to clean things up
after the evening compliance scanning and backups that are memory intensive.
It runs at a random minute in the 4am hour to avoid running it on all at once.

There are some thing that it doesn't get along with it: DB2, GPFS (Spectrum
Scale), and TSAMP.
Clustering things don't like the "pause" so any of the Linux-HA stuff would
fall in that category.

But works great for WAS servers and things like that.

Ray,

Indeed, as Mark points out "cmmflush" is not part of the s390-tools or any
other package in your distribution that I am aware of. I did it back then as
part of my performance research, and it happened to be useful as-is for some
Linux on z/VM installations. It's pretty much the recipe from the blog post
written out in a bash script. Google points me to
https://zvmperf.wordpress.com/2015/02/11/user-experience-with-cmmflush/

My original blog post hasn't changed since 2012, so if the recipe does not work
for you, finding a fresh copy may not fix that. If you can explain the
scenario, we may be able to help you sort it out.

Rob
