Hi Marius, Correct. When a guest connects to another guest on the same vswitch/vlan then the traffic will not go outside of the LPAR. There is simply no need to go outside as the two machine can talk to each other directly. The same is true for a LAN inside VM. Both give you a virtual network within VM, for outside communication the VSWITCH requires an OSA, the LAN a connection to a TCPIP stack.
Obviously when one guest is in a different VLAN and/or in a different LPAR then they require the network as communication has to go outside of the LPAR. External email. Do not open attachments or click links, unless this email comes from a known sender and you know the content is safe. Hello, I have the following network configuration scenarios. In scenario 1 - physical network infrastructure attached to Mainframe is not involved in communication between two zLinux hosts and traffic is handled on zVM level , is it a correct assumption ? Scenario 1: 2x zLinux on VSWITCH (option Layer-2), same VLAN, connected to same VSWITCH (same CHPID) on the same zVM LPAR. Scenario 2: 2x zLinux on VSWITCH (option Layer-2), same VLAN, running in 2 different Datacentres , on 2 different LPARs. All the best, Mariusz ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For LINUX-390 subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO LINUX-390 or visit https://eur01.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww2.marist.edu%2Fhtbin%2Fwlvindex%3FLINUX-390&data=02%7C01%7CBerry.vanSleeuwen%40atos.net%7Cd8b64e565f984cc3d7d908d86c380dc8%7C33440fc6b7c7412cbb730e70b0198d5a%7C0%7C0%7C637378335300011203&sdata=K8Kxa0KQBKBKCOIXaGvpwIUmNIlTR1W3kcgogJgzSvo%3D&reserved=0 This e-mail and the documents attached are confidential and intended solely for the addressee; it may also be privileged.
